HANOVER - William A. Michalowski, 82, of Hanover, a former supervisor, retired postal clerk and Navy veteran of World War II, died Friday at South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth after a brief illness.

Mr. Michalowski was employed as a postal clerk at the Hanover Post Office from 1958 until his retirement 18 years ago. Previously, he worked as a supervisor at the former National Fireworks Company in Hanover until the late 1950s.

Mr. Michalowski was a member of the American Legion in Hanover and a life member and past commander of the Whitman Disabled American Veterans.

He also belonged to the Hanover Historical Society, the Hanover Democratic Town Committee and the Plymouth County Democratic League.

A former member of the call fire department in Hanover, he was also a longtime election worker for the town.

Mr. Michalowski is survived by his wife, Annie L. (Snigerewich) Michalowski; a son, William P. Michalowski of Hanover, two sisters, Mary Lucas of Hanover and Virginia Poole of Scituate; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 am Monday in Our Lady of Ostrobrama Church (Saint Mary's), 692 Main Street, Brockton. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Rockland.

Visiting is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Sunday at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 East Water Street, Rockland. at probably Patriot Ledger. He was buried on 10 June 1997 at Holy Family Cemetery, Rockland, Massachusetts.

Samuel Mattsson Hannuksela married Maija Lisa Johanssdotter Rautelin on 19 December 1847.2 Samuel Mattsson Hannuksela died on 17 September 1889 at Saloinen, Finland, at age 66; [lung disease].3 In 1842, Samuel was in court for being drunk. He was a sailor.4
